I came across a hidden challenge when launching a new startup this year.
After sending out a few emails, I realized that my Rapportive social profile, which was supposed to display my contact information, was blank.
Rapportive is so widely used in the tech industry that I felt this could be crippling my outreach effort.
So, I kicked off some Google searches to figure out how to add my new email address to my Rapportive profile.
According to Rapportive’s 2011 blog post there should be a Rapportive dropdown menu with a “Claim your email address” link.
I remember that menu. It was in Gmail before it was redesigned.
At the time of this writing (4/14), the link hasn’t been added to the new Gmail interface.
I found an old Rapportive support email (email@example.com) and figured I’d take a shot at asking them to add the email address to my profile.
I sent them a short email.
A few hours later, Linkedin support wrote back to me.
They added my new email address to my Rapportive account.
And just like that, my Rapportive profile started displaying for the emails I was sending from my new email address.
I’d recommend to anyone who is working on a new tech startup, with a new email address, take five minutes out of your day and set this up.
You don’t want to run the risk of someone not emailing you back because your Rapportive profile is blank.
